Our John Muir award activities and explorations have now come to an end.
Since April 2020, my family and I took part in this excellent award programme.
It was a fantastic way to strengthen the bonds between the big yins and the wee yins. It gave us all something we could do during lockdown after lockdown. I've loved teaching Jared about the biodiversity around him, and learning a few things myself as well!
I hope you have enjoyed following us on our wee journey in Castlemilk, Glasgow. The last activity on the Agenda was to summarise everything before we receive our certificate. You can find our month by month report below.
I will keep the blog going, especially over these current times. I aim to continue to post up interesting photos of things we see during our frequent walks through Castlemilk Park. When the Butterfly transect starts back in April, I would love to keep you all updated with our finds. I also hope you will all stay tuned to see what species our mysterious waxcap was. I would love to know if the nature-inspired fun I did with the children was useful. As a mum of two wild ones, I will need to keep the amusement up myself, so I will keep the sharing going - especially now we are in another lockdown.
Our next activity will be taking records and talking about the birds we see coming to eat these fat balls!
To finish up, I hope everyone takes care, and thanks again to the John Muir Trust. I also want to thank everyone who has supported me from Castlemilk Park, especially Stuart Whittaker, the Community Woodland Officer. Thanks again!
I’ll leave you with the a photo of Castlemilk Park, this is looking down from the Ancient Bridge.
Emma, you have done some amazing things here. We all need to get back to nature and what you have shown us is very inspiring. I just may take my wee camera to the park tomorrow :)
Take care x
