The lockdown is certainly taking its toll on the wee man these last few days ( and therefore me) . The boredom & all that extra energy is definitely having an affect on his behaviour. From 6am it’s go go go and lots of no no no’s- by 11am I’m totally done in.. and want to hide in a cupboard.
I’m not gonna lie; either side of our latest activities have been mental (Levi is cutting his 1st tooth as well) however having these little to-do’s really help break up the bonkers.
This week we have played our wooly caterpillar game, finished off our fab butterfly feeder and Jared went bug hunting (posts to follow). I even managed to take part in a butterfly identification course being run by the Butterfly Conservation. It’s been amazing learning more about the butterflies I‘m likely to see along the transect (I’ll be sharing this with you also).
Yesterday we got artsy with pinecones and other bits and pieces from our ‘nature collection’. I was totally inspired by the winner of Castlemilk Park’s ‘Biggest Easter Egg’ competition. Check out here to see the photo. I thought what a fab idea; we can do that with all those pinecones Jared brings home every walk - seriously, I’ll be needing more ideas for them soon!
Look at what we made:
A Butterfly
A Bat
And my personal favourite A Hedgehog curled up, on its back!
Can you see it? It’s got eyes and a nose... no?? Okay, I don’t blame you!
Three year olds have the best imagination!
If you want to try this with the kids, but don’t have a stash of park, garden or playground souvenirs; why not go around the garden, pick up sticks, stones, moss, leaves etc.. then create your masterpiece with your findings in the middle?
Or like Jared, when you go for a walk in the park; pick up any natural materials as you go along, and before turning back to go home - see what picture you can make with what you’ve found.
Doesn’t have to be big thing or take long at all. We only used a few pinecones and twigs for ours- and it took less then 10 mins.
I’m really pleased we found an activity we can keep going back to!
We have so much more of this week to share; so please stay tuned! Thanks again to everyone who has subscribed.
